Reflective Essay Guidelines (from Student Guide to Exhibition)
As a final piece of the binder, you must compose a reflective essay that addresses your journey through the Exhibition process. Remember that this is a personal reflection, so you may and should use “I”. In addition to the Reflective Essay rubric, use the guidance below (including the questions) to compose your reflective essay. Don’t forget to look at your proposal and journals as well, since some of the topics below have been addressed in those documents.

- Describe your overall topic and why you chose it. End this opening paragraph with your core question.
- Explain the various parts of your Exhibition including the most significant findings in your research.
- Explain the role your mentor played in the project. Be sure to identify him/her and explain why he/she was an appropriate choice to be your mentor. How did he/she assist you with your research? What did you learn with and/or from your mentor?
- Explain your learning stretch. What new information did you learn while completing this project? How did you apply that learning (i.e. planned an event, created a product, etc.)?
- What was the major problem you addressed within the Exhibition project? What plan/solution did you devise to solve the problem? What obstacles, misunderstandings, or mistakes did you encounter while devising and implementing your plan? Through data and results, justify the plan/solution you chose to implement.
- Briefly explain (2-3 sentences each) how you met the problem solving, critical thinking, research, communication, and reflection/evaluation Applied Learning Proficiencies.
- Briefly explain how you have come to a new understanding of the content standard you identified in your proposal.
- Conclude your essay with comments regarding the new insights and learning stretch you have gained through the completion of your project.
- How do you feel about your topic based on your new learning?
- How could you use the insights you’ve gained through the project in the future?
- Has the project influenced you to change your lifestyle? Has it re-affirmed your passion for the topic? What will you do with your new learning?
